Troops of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued 14 kidnap victims following an operation along the Lagos-Benin Expressway in Edo State.
The rescue followed a kidnap incident on Thursday night in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. According to the Army, troops received credible intelligence at about 9:30 p.m. and immediately pursued the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon 11 victims before fleeing into a nearby forest.
A follow-up clearance operation on Friday July 31 led to the rescue of the remaining three victims. The 14 rescued persons underwent preliminary debriefing and medical checks and were confirmed to be in stable condition before being reunited with their families.
The Army said efforts were ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects. The Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Balogun, commended the troops and assured residents and commuters along the highway that security operations would be sustained to protect lives and property.
