The Federal Government has graduated 18 rescued Chibok girls from its first batch of vocational skills training in Adamawa, with the beneficiaries receiving starter packs and a total of 18 million naira in entrepreneurship grants.
Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said 14 of the girls were trained in tailoring while four received training in catering services. Each graduate received 1 million naira to help establish or expand a business.
The minister said 33 other Chibok girls in the second batch would receive similar grants after completing their training, while additional beneficiaries studying at the American University of Nigeria would also receive 1 million naira each upon graduation. She added that the parents of the 221 Chibok girls would receive financial and equipment support to strengthen their livelihoods.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged the beneficiaries to focus on their future and refuse to be defined by their past experience. She said the government’s goal was to ensure survivors had the skills and resources to become self-reliant, successful entrepreneurs and contributors to Nigeria’s development.
