The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inducted 73 Public Relations Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following the completion of a certification and training programme held in Abuja. The initiative was organised by the NIS in partnership with the NIPR to strengthen professionalism within the Service.
Representing Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap, Deputy Comptroller-General Franca Nwanneka said effective communication is essential to institutional success, noting that public relations now goes beyond information sharing to building public trust, protecting the Service’s reputation and strengthening stakeholder confidence. She urged the newly certified officers to communicate with professionalism, integrity and accuracy while promoting the achievements and reforms of the NIS.
NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, described the officers as Nigeria’s first image makers, noting that they are often the first point of contact for foreigners entering the country. He challenged them to serve as storytellers, reputation ambassadors and solution providers who project a positive image of both the Immigration Service and Nigeria.
The Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, encouraged the officers to apply the knowledge gained during the training in their various commands. He urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while communicating the Service’s policies, operations and achievements with credibility and responsibility.
