Nigerian music star, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has become the first Nigerian entertainer to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange, marking another milestone in his career.
The award-winning singer announced the achievement on his verified X account, revealing that he took part in the ceremony during activities celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London. He described the occasion as a historic moment and shared photos from the event.
D’banj said he was honoured to share the platform with dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, and Afreximbank President, Prof. Benedict Oramah, who also serves as the Second Patron of the Royal African Society.
The London Stock Exchange holds its opening and closing bell ceremonies to commemorate major milestones, anniversaries and significant achievements by organisations and institutions. The Royal African Society, one of the UK’s oldest Africa-focused organisations, promotes engagement with the continent through culture, education, business and policy.
