The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched a nationwide enforcement exercise to remove alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from circulation, reinforcing the Federal Government’s ban on the products.
The agency said coordinated operations are underway across the six geopolitical zones, targeting markets, motor parks, bars, retail outlets and other distribution channels. Manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, transporters and hawkers have been urged to voluntarily surrender any remaining stock, warning that anyone found selling or possessing the banned products risks seizure, sanctions and prosecution.
NAFDAC said the operation would be sustained alongside a public awareness campaign aimed at reducing underage drinking, harmful alcohol consumption and substance abuse. It clarified that the exercise is focused only on products that violate the approved packaging regulations and not on compliant manufacturers.
The agency also called on Nigerians to support the campaign by reporting anyone producing or selling the banned alcoholic beverages and urged the public to avoid patronising the products in the interest of public health and community safety.
