A 500-level Law student of the University of Abuja, Amra Salihu, has won the 9th Inter-Universities Speech Contest organised by the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), emerging overall winner among contestants from five West African countries.
Salihu represented Nigeria after winning the national selection organised by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). She defeated participants from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana at the regional competition held in Freetown, Sierra Leone, earning a winner’s plaque, certificate of honour and a cash prize of 1,000 dollars.
The university said another law student, Abah Goodness, attended the event as an observer, while the team received coaching from the Director of the Law Clinic, Dr Nasiru Mukhtar, with technical support from the NFIU.
Congratulating the winner, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi praised the students and the Faculty of Law for the achievement, saying the university would continue to promote academic excellence and strengthen its global visibility through outstanding performances.
