A 51-year-old man, Adedamola Akintola, has been arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly refusing to return 1.2 million naira that was mistakenly transferred into his bank account.
The prosecution told the court that the money, belonging to Mr Ismael Atere, was accidentally sent to Akintola’s account. Although he reportedly confirmed receiving the funds after being contacted, he allegedly failed to refund the money. Police later tracked and arrested him in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Akintola pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing. The prosecution said the alleged offence is contrary to the Criminal Law of Oyo State.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of 1 million naira with two sureties and adjourned the case until August 17 for hearing.
