The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested two suspected producers of counterfeit alcoholic beverages during enforcement operations in Mushin, Lagos. The agency said the raids uncovered illegal production activities, leading to the recovery of large quantities of suspected fake alcoholic drinks, including products branded as premium local and international labels.
NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr Martins Iluyomade, said officers also seized bottles, packaging materials, labels and equipment allegedly used in the illicit production process. The suspects reportedly made confessional statements, while investigations continue to ensure those involved face prosecution.
In a separate operation, the agency recovered more than 450 cartons of expired salad cream from two locations in Oke Arin Market. The products, which expired in 2024, were evacuated to prevent them from reaching consumers, while the owner has been invited for questioning. Several shops found stocking unregistered and banned products were also sealed.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health through sustained surveillance and enforcement, noting that recent operations have led to convictions of fake drug dealers, with more cases still before the courts. The agency also urged businesses handling regulated products to comply fully with its safety and registration requirements.
