The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed disappointment over the lack of significant entries for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Green Nigeria Challenge Community Category, which closed on July 15. She urged Nigerians to take advantage of the second phase of the competition before the December 20 deadline.
The Community Category was designed to encourage the transformation of degraded public spaces, including dumpsites, abandoned lands and landfills, into green parks, gardens and other environmentally friendly spaces. While noting the poor response, the First Lady said the Household and State categories remain open and called on more participants to join the nationwide initiative.
Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as a model of environmental renewal. She encouraged state governments to replicate similar projects by improving waste management, creating greener public spaces and keeping drainage systems free of refuse to reduce flooding.
The RHI Green Nigeria Challenge offers cash prizes of ₦20 million for the best household, ₦50 million for the best community and ₦100 million for the top-performing state. Interested participants are expected to submit their entries through the Office of the First Lady in their respective states.
