Abia State’s Startup Law 2025 is being hailed as a model for innovation and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
Speaking at the South-East Regional Activation of the Africa Innovation Foundry (AIF) in Umuahia, legal expert Osigwe Momoh described the law as a “game-changer” and called on other states to adopt the Nigeria Startup Act 2022. He said stronger legal protections and supportive policies can help innovators transform ideas into successful businesses.
Momoh urged entrepreneurs to properly protect their intellectual property through trademarks, copyrights and legal agreements. He also encouraged startups to take advantage of available funding opportunities, including Abia’s ₦2 billion seed fund and other government-backed initiatives.
The event also spotlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence and the creative economy. Speakers noted that Africa’s stories, talent and technology ecosystem offer significant opportunities for job creation, investment and global impact. Participants were encouraged to build innovative, scalable and sustainable businesses that can compete on the world stage.
