Troops of the 176 Guards Battalion carried out the operation in Dukpa community, Gwagwalada Area Council, after acting on intelligence obtained from previous arrests linked to illegal mining activities. Authorities said the raid led them to the operational base of the suspected syndicate.
According to the military, the principal suspect allegedly admitted to sponsoring the illegal mining operation and recruiting labourers from Katsina State. Security personnel recovered a motorcycle, mining tools, pumping machine nozzles, cash and substances suspected to be cannabis during the operation.
The army said the action forms part of ongoing anti-illegal mining operations under Operation MESA, aimed at protecting Nigeria’s mineral resources and tackling security threats associated with unlawful mining activities.
