The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to expanding and strengthening the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), with renewed support for infrastructure, academic development and research.

Speaking during a meeting with the university’s Governing Council and Management Team in Abuja, Shaibu described NAUB as a strategic institution for developing skilled military and civilian professionals. He said investments in education, research, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies are essential to enhancing Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

The Army Chief approved an assessment for additional accommodation for military personnel serving at the university and announced plans to work with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to facilitate the construction of a permanent Senate Building. He also pledged full support for the accreditation of the institution’s academic programmes.

The university’s Chancellor, retired Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, commended the COAS for his continued support and disclosed that NAUB would hold its combined graduation ceremony in October 2026. He expressed confidence that the institution would continue to grow as a centre of excellence in military and technological education.
