Air Peace has concluded the Federal Government’s humanitarian evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa, returning the final batch of 308 evacuees aboard its Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
The airline said the final flight landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, bringing the total number of Nigerians evacuated to 1,393 across five dedicated missions. It described the operation as a major humanitarian effort carried out in partnership with the Federal Government to support citizens affected by the security situation in South Africa.
According to Air Peace, the evacuation highlighted the value of public-private collaboration in responding to emergencies. The airline noted that it has undertaken more than 20 humanitarian and evacuation missions across Africa and beyond, assisting in emergency repatriations and other national response efforts.
The returnees were received by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who assured them of the Federal Government’s support for their reintegration. She also commended Air Peace and its Chairman, Dr Allen Onyema, for their role in the successful evacuation, while the airline reaffirmed its commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives whenever needed.
