The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on governments, employers and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in improving the welfare and workplace experience of corps members across Nigeria. The appeal was made at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Representing the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, officials urged employers to provide corps members with roles that match their qualifications, while ensuring mentorship, professional development, security and a conducive work environment. The scheme also reminded employers of their obligations under the NYSC Act, including providing accommodation or allowances where necessary and supporting participation in Community Development Service (CDS) activities.
The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Tochi Chris-Moneke, identified key challenges affecting corps members, including poor communication, inadequate accommodation, insecurity, underutilisation and welfare concerns. She urged stakeholders to work together to address these issues and create more rewarding service experiences for participants.
Participants at the workshop pledged to develop practical strategies to strengthen the NYSC and enhance its contribution to national development.
