The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has urged motorists to observe safety measures during the rainy season to reduce the risk of road crashes. The Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhanuo, said the advisory became necessary as weather forecasts indicate heavier rainfall across the country.
She advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, with tyres that have adequate tread depth, functional headlights, brake lights, indicators and windscreen wipers. According to her, these safety features are essential for maintaining visibility and control on wet and slippery roads.
The FRSC also urged motorists to switch on their headlights whenever it rains, reduce speed, maintain safe following distances and adjust their driving to prevailing weather conditions. Asekhanuo stressed that careful driving is the best way to prevent avoidable accidents during the season.
To improve compliance, the command has directed its unit commanders to intensify public awareness campaigns and traffic enforcement across the state. The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and appealed to all road users to obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly.
