Police in Kogi State have launched a manhunt for gunmen who abducted six people during the ongoing NECO examination at a school in Dekina Local Government Area. The victims include four students, the school principal and a NECO ad-hoc staff member.
The Police Command said security operatives responded immediately after the incident, which occurred while candidates were writing their examination. One of the abducted students has since been rescued, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining victims and arrest those responsible.
According to the police, the Commissioner of Police, senior military officials and the state’s Security Adviser are heading to the scene to assess the situation and coordinate ongoing operations. Authorities say all available resources have been deployed to ensure the victims’ safe return.
The command appealed for calm and assured parents, students and residents that security agencies are working to bring the incident to a successful conclusion. It added that further updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available.
