MAN TO SWEEP COURT PREMISES FOR 40 DAYS FOR STEALING MATTRESS

Listen

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered a 45-year-old man, Dennis Dogo, to sweep the court premises for 40 days for stealing a mattress. Dogo, a resident of Ungwan Pama, Kaduna, was charged with criminal conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, had told the court that the matter was reported by one Mary Samson on July 8. He said Dogo and two others still at large, broke into Samson’s shop located at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, and stole a Mouka mattress valued at N206,000. He said Dogo was caught and handed over to authorities by a security guard, while the two others fled. Leo added that the offences contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Dogo after he pleaded guilty to theft. He held that the court was lenient on the convict because he pleaded guilty, thereby not wasting the judge’s time.

The Magistrate advised Dogo to desist from committing crime and look for something meaningful to do. He added that the court will not be lenient with him if he continued with the life of crime.
