A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Michael Pascal, to 10 months imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to stealing electrical appliances and a generator from a church in Ungwan Maigero, Kaduna.
The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. In delivering judgment, the magistrate said it was unfortunate that some young people resort to crime instead of pursuing legitimate means of livelihood, warning the convict against future criminal acts.
According to the prosecution, the offence was committed on July 10, with the stolen items valued at about ₦750,000. The court heard that the suspect allegedly took the recovered items to another individual, who is currently at large, for concealment.
The prosecution said the offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect connected to the case.
