The Lagos State Government has arrested a woman for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel through her child in the Shomolu area of the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Monday July 13 in a post on his X handle. He identified the suspect as Mrs McCarthy of No. 56 Adaranijo St., Pedro, Shomolu. He alleged that the woman instructed her child to dispose of refuse into a covered drainage channel, contrary to the state’s environmental laws.
According to the commissioner, enforcement officers investigated the incident after receiving a report, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He urged residents to act responsibly and educate their children on protecting public infrastructure, particularly drainage systems.
Wahab reiterated that maintaining a clean, safe and flood-resilient environment was a collective responsibility and urged residents to dispose of waste properly in support of the state’s environmental sanitation efforts.
