Air Peace has confirmed that one of its Airbus A320 aircraft was damaged on the ground at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (MMA1) in Lagos after a baggage conveyor belt vehicle operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) struck one of the aircraft’s engines.
The airline said the incident occurred shortly after a flight from Kano landed safely and passengers had disembarked. The damaged engine has rendered the aircraft unserviceable, forcing the airline to adjust its schedule, with some domestic flights expected to experience delays or cancellations.
Air Peace apologised to affected passengers and assured them that alternative travel arrangements and customer support were being provided. It also reaffirmed that passenger safety remains its highest priority while investigations into the incident continue.
Preliminary reports indicate that the NAHCO operator reportedly became ill while handling the equipment and is currently receiving medical treatment. Air Peace said it is working with NAHCO and relevant aviation authorities to determine the cause of the incident and prevent a recurrence.
