The Principal of Community High School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Folake Alamu, has narrated the traumatic experience she and other abducted teachers and pupils endured during their 56 days in captivity.
Mrs. Alamu spoke on Monday July 13 after she and the other rescued victims were formally received by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the Executive Council Chambers, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Alamu said the victims endured fear, hardship and uncertainty throughout their captivity, adding that the kidnappers relied on intimidation to keep them under control. She disclosed that the abductors killed one teacher, Mr Michael, a day after they were abducted and killed another teacher, Deacon, the first Sunday in June, adding that this was done to pressure the federal government to take them seriously.
The principal also recalled that shortly before their rescue, the kidnappers forced them to embark on a lengthy trek through the forest at night. She, however, dismissed reports that any of the victims was sexually assaulted during the period of captivity.
Speaking on her future, Mrs. Alamu said the traumatic experience had left emotional scars and she was yet to decide whether she would return to the classroom. She, however, expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of the survivors and thanked the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and Nigerians for their prayers and support.
The teachers and pupils were earlier abducted from three schools by gunmen in a well coordinated operation, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state, on May 15 2026.
