The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service has announced a comprehensive review and planned upgrade of its fire router system to improve emergency response and align with modern firefighting technology. The service said the exercise is aimed at enhancing efficiency and strengthening public safety across the territory.
Director of the FCT Fire Service, ACG Zaccheaus Adebayo, explained that the fire router system, introduced in 2024 under the Fire Emergency Monitoring Gateway project, enables real-time fire detection and instant transmission of alerts to emergency control rooms, helping to reduce response times. He said some of the existing devices have become outdated and will be upgraded to deliver better performance.
Adebayo advised current subscribers to retain their installed fire router devices while the review is ongoing and urged those whose subscriptions are due for renewal to seek clarification through the service’s official communication channels before making long-term commitments. He assured residents that emergency fire reporting and response services remain fully operational throughout the upgrade process.
The fire service also appealed for increased government support to modernise ageing firefighting equipment, recruit more personnel and provide advanced training for firefighters. According to Adebayo, greater investment in modern technology, including drones, communication systems and specialised rescue equipment, is essential to meet the growing demands of the rapidly expanding FCT and improve emergency preparedness.
