The West African Beach Soccer Union (WABSU) has commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for establishing an interim board to oversee beach soccer and futsal in the country, describing the move as a major boost for the development of the sport.
In a statement, WABSU Zone B Executive Chairman, Mbabia Yves, praised the NFF’s decision, saying a dedicated administrative structure would provide the organisation, investment and leadership needed to grow beach soccer in Nigeria. The newly inaugurated board is chaired by Mahmud Hadejia, with former Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi among its members.
Yves noted that the development comes ahead of the WABSU Club Competition scheduled for October 2026 in the Benin Republic, expressing confidence that Nigerian clubs will now have a clearer pathway to participate and compete successfully at the regional tournament. He described the board’s composition as a positive step towards strengthening both beach soccer and futsal across the country.
WABSU also pledged to work closely with the new board in organising credible domestic competitions, developing grassroots talent and promoting greater participation, including in women’s beach soccer. The union further congratulated the NFF leadership, led by Ibrahim Gusau, for its commitment to advancing all forms of football in Nigeria.
