Eight people, including three children, have been killed in a suspected terrorist attack on a rural community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, according to the police.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, confirmed that the victims comprised five adults and three children. He said security personnel visited the affected area to assess the situation, engage residents and help restore calm following the attack.
The police commissioner described the incident as a terrorist attack, explaining that the attackers reportedly used guerrilla-style tactics by striking the community and retreating into nearby forests before security operatives could apprehend them.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether it is connected to previous incidents in the area.
