The Nigerian Army has called on students across the country to reject crime, drug abuse and other social vices while embracing education, discipline and patriotism as vital tools for building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria.
The appeal was made during a public speaking engagement on Friday July 3 at Government Day Secondary School, Rigachikun, Kaduna, organised by Headquarters 1 Division as part of activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026. Representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, Brig.-Gen. Anwar Abdullahi said the celebration honours the sacrifices of serving personnel, veterans and fallen heroes while strengthening ties between the military and the public.
Abdullahi noted that the Army has recorded significant operational successes against criminal elements in Kaduna State and other parts of the country, attributing the achievements to the cooperation of law-abiding citizens. He encouraged students to uphold integrity, hard work and discipline, describing them as the surest path to personal and national development.
The Army also urged interested youths, including female students, to explore career opportunities within the military, highlighting professions in education, engineering, medicine, information and communication technology, administration and other specialised fields. Officials stressed that the institution offers equal opportunities for qualified Nigerians committed to serving the nation.
Representatives of the Kaduna State Government commended the initiative, describing it as a platform for promoting leadership, national unity and mutual understanding between the military and young people. The outreach formed part of activities leading to the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration scheduled for July 6.
