The Nigerian Army has assured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment and capacity to overcome the country’s security challenges, urging citizens to continue supporting ongoing military operations nationwide.
The assurance was given by the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Balogun, after leading officers and soldiers on a 10-kilometre route march in Benin as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL). He said the exercise demonstrated the troops’ physical fitness, operational readiness and commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Balogun said the Chief of Army Staff had directed commanders to reassure Nigerians that the Army remains prepared to confront all security threats. He described the Nigerian Army as “the people’s army,” calling on citizens to trust the military and continue providing the support needed to strengthen security efforts across the country.
Reflecting on the Army’s 163-year history, the brigade commander said the institution has remained resilient in defending the nation through various conflicts and peace support operations within and outside Nigeria. He noted that the military continues to adapt to emerging security challenges while remaining focused on protecting lives and maintaining national unity.
Balogun also commended officers and soldiers of the brigade for successfully completing the route march without casualties, describing it as a testament to the Army’s discipline and preparedness. The annual Nigerian Army Day Celebration honours the sacrifices of serving personnel, veterans and fallen heroes in defence of the nation.
