The Federal Government has inaugurated a new implementation and monitoring committee to accelerate the completion and operation of Smart Schools, Bilingual Schools and Alternative Schools across Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that investments in education translate into real learning opportunities for children. He noted that many school projects are completed or near completion but have yet to become fully operational, denying thousands of learners access to quality education.

According to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), 37 Smart Schools have been established nationwide, with 24 already conducting academic activities. The commission also disclosed that 30 bilingual schools have been developed under the UBEC-Islamic Development Bank programme, with several already completed and others nearing commissioning.

The committee has been tasked with ensuring unfinished projects are completed, schools are equipped, teachers are deployed and students are enrolled without delay. Officials say the goal is simple: to ensure that every school built with public funds becomes a functional learning centre that supports the future of Nigerian children.
