Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as governor of Ekiti State after recording a commanding victory in Saturday’s governorship election, defeating candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by a wide margin.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result in the early hours of Sunday June 21 at its state headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, confirming Oyebanji’s dominance across the state’s 16 local government areas.
According to the final results released by INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes, far ahead of the PDP candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, who secured 40,533 votes, while ADC candidate, Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.
The landslide victory reinforces Oyebanji’s political influence in the state and gives him a fresh mandate to continue his administration’s programmes for another four years.
