FG LAUNCHES TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP TO IMPROVE FOOD SAFETY AND AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS

Listen

The Federal Government has inaugurated a Technical Working Group (TWG) on Agricultural Produce Residue Standards as part of efforts to strengthen food safety and improve the quality of Nigerian agricultural exports.

Speaking in Abuja, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi, said the initiative is aimed at helping Nigerian agricultural products meet international food safety and quality standards. He noted that export rejections linked to non-compliance with residue limits and other standards have affected market access and economic opportunities.

The new working group brings together experts from government agencies, academia, research institutions, the private sector and development partners to address residue-related challenges in agricultural produce. Its mandate includes reviewing standards, improving monitoring systems, strengthening laboratory capacity and promoting best practices.

Officials say the initiative is expected to support food safety, enhance public health, improve export competitiveness and create greater opportunities for farmers and exporters.
