Students of the Department of Theatre Arts at Federal University Lokoja (FUL) have concluded their 2026 Community Theatre Project, using drama performances to encourage unity, peaceful coexistence, and community-driven development in Lokoja.
Through a series of playlets presented in Karaworo community, the students highlighted challenges such as tribalism, poor cooperation, inadequate water supply, bad roads, and unstable electricity. The performances encouraged residents to embrace dialogue, self-help initiatives, and collective action in addressing local issues.
Speaking at the event, FUL Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, praised the project for strengthening the relationship between the university and the community. He urged students to transform their creative skills into sustainable careers while encouraging communities to identify and pursue practical solutions to their challenges.
Community leaders and university officials described the initiative as a valuable platform for civic engagement, with organisers reaffirming their commitment to follow-up visits to track progress and support community development efforts.
