Rivers Police Begin Enforcement Against Covered and Obscured Vehicle Number Plates

Listen

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, defaced, unauthorised, or unregistered number plates.

According to the command, the operation follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police and is aimed at strengthening public safety and improving security across the state. Police say the measure is intended to prevent the concealment of vehicle identities and support law enforcement efforts.

The command warned that vehicles found in violation of the directive will be impounded, while offenders may face prosecution in line with existing laws. Motorists have been advised to ensure their number plates are properly affixed, visible, and free from any form of obstruction or alteration.

The police also directed officers involved in the exercise to act professionally and lawfully, stressing that the operation must not be used for harassment, intimidation, or extortion. Authorities say the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and enhance public safety in Rivers State.
