The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has commenced its 2026 Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition as part of efforts to strengthen combat readiness, professionalism and operational effectiveness among troops.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, said the competition aligns with the Nigerian Army’s goal of building a professional, adaptive and combat-ready force. He described warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers as key personnel who play important roles in discipline, training, mentorship and troop welfare.
The competition features activities including weapon handling and shooting, map reading, point-to-point navigation, combat walk and drill exercises. According to the brigade commander, the events are designed to test physical endurance, leadership, teamwork and professional competence.
Soldiers from the Guards Brigade’s battalions and garrison are participating in the exercise, which is expected to promote healthy competition, strengthen teamwork and enhance operational preparedness across the formation.
