The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of an electrical technician, Mr. Olarewaju Olusegun Afolabi, in Ilorin.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters on Sunday June 14, State Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed said Afolabi was declared missing after leaving home on June 7, 2026, for an electrical inspection job and failing to return. The case was reported to the NSCDC Tracking Unit on June 11 after the victim’s family began receiving ransom demands of ₦2 million through his mobile phone.

According to Mohammed, the family managed to transfer ₦120,000 to the caller before operatives traced the transactions linking to the victim’s Opay account, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The Commandant said Mujeeb, who allegedly confessed during interrogation, admitted he had previously worked with the deceased and claimed unresolved grievances between them led him to lure Afolabi to an uncompleted building in the Kongile area of Kunlende, Ilorin, under the pretext of inspecting a new electrical project.

“He attacked and killed the victim before taking his mobile phone and SIM card, which he used to demand ransom from the family,” Mohammed said, adding that the suspect later led operatives to a shallow grave believed to contain the victim’s remains. The victim’s phone and SIM card were also recovered.

Mohammed said investigations were ongoing and that the case would be transferred to the appropriate security agency for prosecution after preliminary procedures. He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information to help combat crime.
