Residents of Mandate Area in Ilorin, Kwara State, were jolted up in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, after a fire broke out at a supermarket container located along Lubcon Road, beside Peace Pharmacy. The Kwara State Fire Service quickly intervened, preventing a wider disaster.

According to the fire service, the distress call was received at about 03:08hrs, prompting an immediate response.

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a spark from a high-tension transmission line situated directly above the shop, which fell on combustible materials around the structure, igniting the blaze. Firefighters were able to bring the situation under control.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, cautioned against the practice of siting structures under high-tension power lines.

The service reiterated its commitment to rapid emergency response, and continuous public enlightenment on fire safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and report hazards promptly.
