KWARA POLICE ARREST ALLEGED EIYE CULT LEADER, THREE OTHERS, IN CRACKDOWN

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang, including an alleged Cult Leader, during a coordinated operation in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation, carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on June 11, followed intelligence reports linking the suspects to cult-related violence, robberies, and other criminal activities within the community.

According to the statement, one Idowu Akorede, identified as the alleged Leader of the Eiye Confraternity in the area, was apprehended during the raid, while three other suspects were subsequently arrested after some violent resistance. The suspects have since been transferred to Ilorin and remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, while commending the VCRU operatives for their professionalism and bravery, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other forms of criminality across the state.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in the fight against crime.
