West African lawmakers and stakeholders are gathering in Dakar, Senegal, for a week-long ECOWAS Parliament meeting focused on renewable energy and rural electrification across the region.
The meeting will explore strategies to expand access to sustainable electricity, particularly in rural communities where many people still lack reliable power. Discussions will focus on renewable energy solutions such as solar mini-grids, hybrid energy systems, and stand-alone solar installations.
Participants include regional parliamentarians, government officials, development partners, private sector representatives, civil society organisations, and energy experts. The meeting will also review key ECOWAS energy policies and assess progress toward the region’s goal of achieving universal access to affordable and sustainable energy by 2030.
A field visit to a renewable energy project in Senegal is also planned, giving lawmakers an opportunity to engage with local communities and observe the impact of rural electrification firsthand. The meeting is expected to conclude with recommendations aimed at strengthening energy access and investment across West Africa.
