JIGAWA RESIDENTS RESORT TO CHARCOAL AMID SOARING COOKING GAS PRICES

Listen

Some residents of Dutse in Jigawa have resorted to charcoal for cooking and domestic purposes amid cooking gas price hike.

At some of the available gas stations, many consumers joined long queues to refill their cylinders, while some other gas stations had run out of stock.

The acute scarcity of the product pushed prices up forcing most families to seek alternative energies to meet their needs.

Miss Joy Ogbaje, a student, said she could not afford the present selling price of 2,000 naira per KG. Another resident, Mujahid Usman, said he abandoned plans to buy cooking gas, and had opted for charcoal, which is readily available and cheaper.

Calls are being made for better regulatory measures to improve supply and stabilize prices.
