The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is advising farmers across the state to adopt drought-resistant and early-maturing seed varieties ahead of the 2026 rainy season.
According to the agency, the guidance is aimed at helping farmers reduce potential losses linked to flooding and dry spells expected during the farming season. Farmers have also been encouraged to consult agricultural experts on the most suitable seeds for their locations.
SEMA noted that the state is projected to experience higher rainfall this year, with possible flooding in about 12 local government areas and a rainy period expected to last around 159 days. It also urged residents to maintain good environmental practices to reduce disaster risks.
