Stakeholders and road users in Edo State say the poor condition of major federal highways is contributing to security risks, including kidnapping and armed robbery incidents along key routes.
Transport operators on corridors such as Benin-Auchi and Benin-Ore say damaged road sections often slow down traffic and create congestion, leaving travellers more exposed during long delays and night journeys. Some motorists, however, note that parts of the roads have improved due to ongoing repairs.
Commuters and drivers are calling for full reconstruction of critical highways instead of temporary fixes, saying this would improve both travel safety and movement of goods.
Government agencies say rehabilitation works are ongoing on several affected roads, with efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and reducing travel risks.
