For many residents of Gwagwalada Area Council in the FCT, Point of Sale (POS) agents have become an essential part of daily banking and financial transactions.
A survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) found that residents increasingly rely on POS operators for cash withdrawals, transfers, bill payments, airtime purchases, and other financial services. Many users cited convenience, accessibility, and reduced travel costs compared to visiting bank branches or ATMs.
POS operators say customer demand has grown significantly in recent years, with many businesses also using POS services to support payments and sales. Banking professionals note that the expansion of POS services has helped improve financial inclusion and reduce congestion in banking halls.
However, operators and customers identified challenges such as network disruptions, failed transactions, fraud attempts, and increasing competition among agents. Despite these concerns, POS services continue to play a vital role in supporting economic activities and expanding access to banking services across communities.
