Kano State says it has recorded significant progress in agriculture and food security over the past three years through investments in irrigation, mechanisation, farmer support programmes, and livestock development.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmud, said the state has developed a comprehensive farmers’ database to support planning and improve the delivery of agricultural interventions. He noted that the database has also strengthened collaboration with development partners.
According to the commissioner, the government has rehabilitated irrigation facilities, distributed fertilisers, supported rural road construction, promoted climate-smart farming practices, and expanded livestock vaccination programmes. He added that modern agricultural equipment and solar-powered irrigation pumps have been acquired to boost productivity.
The state also highlighted ongoing investments in irrigation infrastructure, including a major dam project and several smaller earth dams aimed at expanding farming activities. Officials say the efforts are focused on improving food production, strengthening resilience, and supporting economic growth across the agricultural sector.
