SOUTH SUDAN STRENGTHENS EBOLA PREPAREDNESS AMID OUTBREAKS IN UGANDA, DR CONGO

Listen

South Sudan has intensified its emergency preparedness efforts following Ebola outbreaks in neighbouring Uganda and the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Senior government officials, alongside representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health partners, visited key public health facilities in Juba to assess and strengthen the country’s readiness to respond to any potential Ebola threat.

Authorities said South Sudan remains at high risk of importing cases because of its proximity to affected areas and cross-border movement. Government officials reaffirmed their commitment to improving coordination, surveillance, public awareness and emergency response measures.

Although no Ebola case has been confirmed in South Sudan, health authorities and international partners say early preparedness remains critical to preventing and managing potential outbreaks. WHO also continues to support high-risk areas with public health planning, surveillance and response capacity.
