A former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retired), and his wife, have been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in Katsina State.
The retired military officer and his wife were said to have been kidnapped on Saturday May 30 while travelling to Katsina, after gunmen intercepted their vehicle along the Katsina-Matazu road in Matazu Local Government Area.
The couple was taken away, while the general’s driver, though sustaining gunshot wounds, was able to escape. The general’s vehicle, a red Peugeot 504, was later recovered and taken to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
Katsina remains one of the states hardest hit by bandit attacks, with residents repeatedly calling for stronger security measures to curb the activities of armed groups operating across the North-West.
