HIGH TRANSPORT FARES DISRUPT SALLAH TRAVEL PLANS IN ABUJA

Listen

Many residents of the Federal Capital Territory say rising transport fares are affecting their Sallah travel plans ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Some residents who spoke in Abuja said the increase in fuel prices and the current economic situation have made inter-state travel difficult for many families. While some have cancelled trips entirely, others say they are staying back in Abuja because transportation costs have nearly doubled compared to last year.

Transport operators also say they are struggling with higher costs of fuel, engine oil and vehicle maintenance. Drivers at major motor parks in Abuja reported lower passenger turnout this festive season, with many travellers either postponing trips or looking for cheaper alternatives.

Despite the challenges, some residents say family reunions during Sallah remain important, even as they adjust to the rising cost of travel and celebration.
