PRESIDENCY DENIES REPORT ON PLAN TO RENAME NIGERIA, SCRAP SHARIA LAW

Listen

The Presidency has dismissed a viral report claiming that President Bola Tinubu plans to rename Nigeria and abolish Sharia Law in northern states.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described the report as false and misleading, saying it is aimed at creating tension and confusion in the country. He also denied claims about a proposed constitutional amendment bill allegedly tagged “Project True Federation.”

Onanuga explained that constitutional amendments follow strict legal procedures involving the National Assembly and state assemblies, and cannot be done arbitrarily. He urged Nigerians to disregard the report in its entirety.

He added that President Tinubu remains focused on economic reforms and delivering governance priorities, while warning against the spread of misinformation.
