The Miyetti-Allah Fulaku Yeso Yeso Development Association (MAFYDA) has appealed to the Federal Government to provide loan support for butchers nationwide to help reduce the rising cost of beef.
The association said many butchers are unable to buy cows directly from livestock farmers because of limited funds, forcing them to depend on middlemen who resell cattle at much higher prices. According to MAFYDA, direct access to livestock markets could help lower the prices of beef and other meat products across the country.
The group also linked the rising cost of beef to transportation challenges, insecurity, expensive veterinary services, and limited grazing land. It said improved financial support for butchers could help ease pressure on meat prices for consumers.
