Tragedy struck in Kwara State on Friday night May 22, after suspected armed bandits attacked a prayer ground in Ekiti Local Government Area, at about 8:30 p.m. killing three worshippers and abducting 15 others during a night vigil.
According to the Kwara State Police Command, the attack was reported on Saturday by Pastor Adebayo Abiodun of Ijo Ajaye Ati Igbala, Ekerin Village, who said the heavily armed assailants stormed the vigil ground at Ori-Oke Ajaiye shooting sporadically, killing three persons on the spot before whisking away 15 others.
Following the report, operatives from the Ekiti Division of the Nigeria Police Force were immediately deployed to the scene to begin a full-scale tactical and intelligence-led investigation and rescue operation. The operation, according to the police, involves the deployment of the Police Drone Team, Police Mobile Force personnel, intelligence units and other operational assets.
Residents of the area and environs were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could aid ongoing rescue efforts.
The command assured the public that updates would be communicated as activities progress.
