Listen

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 500 suspected Ebola cases and about 130 suspected deaths have been recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

WHO officials say only 30 cases have been confirmed so far, while investigations continue into the spread of the outbreak, which has also reached parts of North Kivu and neighbouring Uganda.

Health teams are working with local authorities to deploy testing kits, health workers, and other response support. WHO also stressed the importance of community awareness, early reporting, and cooperation with health measures to help control the spread.
