The United Nations says it is concerned about recurring attacks on schools in Nigeria, describing them as harmful to children, teachers, and communities.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organisation is closely monitoring recent incidents involving armed groups targeting schools, including reports of abductions and deaths of teachers in parts of the country.

He said UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also concerned about the activities of extremist groups in Nigeria. According to him, the UN system in the country is working with Nigerian authorities to strengthen the protection of schools and improve safety for students.

The UN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ongoing efforts aimed at making learning environments safer and reducing attacks on educational institutions.
