Listen

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for stronger cooperation among African countries and international partners to advance the peaceful and sustainable development of nuclear energy.

She made the call at the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA 2026) held in Kigali, Rwanda, where she described the summit as a key platform for turning Africa’s energy ambitions into practical solutions.

President Hassan said Africa’s economic growth depends on affordable and reliable energy to support industrialisation, transport, mining and digital infrastructure. She noted that Tanzania is exploring nuclear energy as part of its long-term energy diversification plan under its national development vision.

She also highlighted the need for regional cooperation, proper regulation, skilled manpower and financing to ensure the safe use of nuclear technology. During the summit, she met Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, where both leaders witnessed the signing of an energy cooperation agreement between their countries.
